Pulled Pork Pizza

One of my favorite combinations ever is Pulled Pork Pizza! There is just something about delicious pulled pork mingling with barbecue sauce, scallions and pizza dough that send me over the moon!

Pulled Pork Pizza recipe

I am pretty sure that this Pulled Pork Pizza, makes my 13-year-old son love me just a little bit more!  Lol! I get lots of love when I make him this or his favorite breakfast pizza.

I get "mom THIS is a-mazing", a big fat hug, a kiss the cook and some of those sounds people make when they really love a bite of food.

All of that makes this momma feel fantastic!

The combination of pizza crust, barbecue sauce, pulled pork, scallions, jalapenos and cheese just work!  Just a delicious pizza topping combination idea to me. I go back for another piece every time (the same can't be said for me when it comes to traditional pizza, just not my thing).

This Pulled Pork Pizza recipe is SO easy!  You can choose to make your own pulled pork or use store-bought.  Same goes for the dough. However, I always recommend buying a disk or two of dough from your local pizza place. It's made by professionals, inexpensive, so fresh and you are supporting a small business 🙂

Pizza Dough for homemade pizza

Ingredients

  • Pizza dough homemade or purchased from a pizza place
  • Olive or avocado oil
  • Salt & pepper
  • Barbecue sauce
  • Mozzarella cheese divided
  • Pulled pork (my pulled pork recipe)
  • Jalapeno
  • Scallions

Variations

  • Swap the pork for pulled chicken or pulled beef.
  • Play around with various cheese combinations for different flavors.
  • Add additional toppings like thinly sliced red onions, thinly sliced jalapenos, pickled jalapenos, arugula, microgreens, etc.

Tips

  • Make sure your oven is fully preheated before placing pizza in.
  • Use a pizza pan, pizza stone or baking sheet. You can also make pizza on the grill or in your pizza oven. We happen to have an Ooni.
  • You can shape in a traditional pizza circle or make it oblong and rustic.
  • Assemble pulled pork pizza just before baking for best result.

  • ½ teaspoon olive or grapeseed oil
  • Salt & pepper
  • ½ cup barbecue sauce
  • 1 ½ cups mozzarella cheese divided
  • 2 cups of pulled pork tossed with a small amount of bbq sauce homemade or purchased - my recipe here
  • 1 jalapeno sliced thin or pickled jalapenos
  • 3 scallions cut thin

Instructions

  • Preheat your oven to 400 degrees.
  • Shape your dough into a traditional pizza round or a rustic shape.
  • Lightly flour the pan or pizza stone you will be baking the pizza on.
  • Lightly oil the top of your pizza, then season with salt & pepper.
  • Spread the barbecue sauce onto the dough, add 1 cup of mozzarella cheese (more if you prefer) and the jalapenos.
  • Bake for 10 minutes and then pull pizza out from the oven and add the pulled pork, another 1.2 cup (or more of cheese) and place back into the oven for an additional 5-8 minutes or until crust is the way you enjoy it.
  • Top with scallions and serve.

Notes

You can easily customize this pizza by adding as much cheese and other toppings as you would like crispy bacon, banana peppers or mixing up the cheeses.

I love the recipe - I was a fan of BBQ on my pizza before it was cool! (Remember back when Pizza Hut first introduced BBQ Beef Pizza? I'd tell my friends about it and they'd look at me like I was nuts. Plus Pizza Hut charged a premium for it instead of offering it cheap to get people to try it, so it was a big flop. Plus ca change...)

This is a great idea to change up pizza night! We like to make our own pizza, because it's so much more affordable than restaurant pizza or take out, but we get tired of the same old toppings. Everyone loved this pulled pork pizza and we will be adding it to our regular pizza rotation!
